My Favourite Protein Powders

Protein powders can be helpful if you are trying to get more protein in your body. It also helps muscle support for your workouts. But good protein powders are so hard to find!

I have tried a lot of protein powders. Why are good protein powders so hard to find? Bad aftertaste, bloating, chalky, clumpy, some also interfere with GI function or cause acne! Some taste awful too. While taste is very individual, we all want these basic things:

  • Flavour
  • No chalkiness or grit
  • No bad aftertaste
  • Digests well
  • Good quality protein

Here are the ones I keep going back to:

  1. Genuine Health
  2. Vega Sport Protein
  3. Kaizen Whey Isolate
Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Protein, Chocolate
  • A – Flavour
  • A – No chalkiness or grit
  • A – No bad aftertaste
  • A – Digests well
  • A – Good quality protein
  • Yes – Plant-Based

Does it blend well?
If you like to mix with water only, this is the one for you. I like to increase the water so that it is more runny and I drink it on my way to see a client or in between clients. In the morning, I simply add a scoop and a half to my blender bottle and then fill with water. If I have time in the morning, I’ll add a couple tablespoons of unsweetened dark cocoa too.

In a smoothie, the chocolate flavour tends to get lost when mixed with other ingredients. If you want it stronger, I’d recommend adding a spoon or two of dark cocoa. Great blended with a banana and PB.

Vega Sport Protein, Chocolate
  • B – Flavour

  • A – No bad aftertaste
  • B – Digests well
  • A – Good quality protein

Does it blend well?
Mixes well and tastes good with just water but also yummy in a smoothie. I don’t recommend mixes the other flavours in plain water. They tend to have a chalkier texture than the chocolate. They taste better mixed with fruit. Try this smoothie using Vega Sport Protein.

Kaizen Naturals Whey Protein Isolate, Vanilla and Chocolate
  • B – Flavour
  • B – No chalkiness or grit
  • A – No bad aftertaste
  • B – Digests well
  • A – Good quality protein
  • No – Plant-Based

Does it blend well?
I prefer to avoid dairy but out of all the whey proteins, I like Kaizen the most. Kaizen protein is denatured, cold-pressed, cross-flow micro and ultra-filtered. In addition, they are sourced from grass-fed New Zealand cows. The taste is unbeatable. The chocolate tastes so close to chocolate milk! Great mixed alone with water or in smoothies.
