The girls and I went to get a drive-thru lunch yesterday. While we were waiting for our food, I took the opportunity to talk about racism and the current events with racial injustice and police brutality.
I limit this on my Insta to avoid trolls and exasperating arguments that the don’t end well. But I can’t stay silent when there are lives being taken away. My friend Lara @heavyeyeshappyhearts says, ‘it’s not enough to simply be anti-racist, we need to open it up to discussion’ and address it so it doesn’t feel foreign to our kids.

I kept it simple with these main points:
• some people believe their skin colour is better than other skin colours so they do things to hurt POC.
• people of colour have different experiences than us and it is important to understand that.
• speaking up and protests have led us to change so we cannot stay silent about things that aren’t right.
• this is important to our family.
I’ve been educating myself more as well and my heart continues to feel heavy (I recognize this is my privilege). Movement helps. This is the circuit I did today:
10/10/10 HIIT
[10 reps of each movement, per side, 3 rounds]
• step ups
• curtsy lunge
• push up
• toe tap
• burpees
• plank shoulder taps

How are you handling the current events? Are you talking to your kids about it?
